Building

The Idiarte Borda Castle, Historical National Heritage, is a neoclassical building dated from the end of XIX century and it was the residence of the Uruguayan Republic President Idiarte Borda. All architectural elements and decoration were imported. The wonderful iron gate is the only thing made in Uruguay by Manuel Sorrondegui smithy.

Garden

The original gardens designed by the French landscape painter Carlos Thays, were very well-preserved.

Description

The 1100 square meters were distributed in five levels: basement, main floor, first floor, second floor and on the top there are two lofts with two small tower and two flat roofs. There is a huge basement. This basement is almost the castle surface size. In the main floor there is a huge hall with marble stairs with access to other floors. From the hall there is an access to two living-rooms with balconies: one of them has a delicate glass window and is reserved for receptions and the other one is lounge-dining room. There is a kitchen with a big office, bathroom in this floor. In the first floor there are 5 big rooms with an exit to large balconies surrounding the house, a complete bathroom and a glazed gallery. In the second floor, there are 5 big rooms, loft and a complete bathroom, 2 balconies. In the fifth floor a big loft lined with wood with a surface 10x4  balcony, two small tower and two flat roofs.
