URUGUAY: INFORMATION FOR A BUSSINESS MAN

Uruguay has a high legal and political estability. Even though its country regulated by state officers and government employes, its very well possitionated on the international rankings based on economic liberty. Uruguay enhaces his policy to stimulate investments, its memeber of international organizations that promote secure investments icluding the Multiletarla Agrement of Investments and the Internatioanal Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. Latest studies of economic climate have positioned Uruguay in a respetable place. On 2007 the Index of Economic Freedom gave a 69,3% valorization, that places Uruguay on number 33 on World ranking.

They promote private and foreign investment. If we consider the Index of International Transparency on 2006, Uruguay is over the other contries of Latin America, its on the spot number 28 on world ranking just after Chile (Brasil is on number 70 and Argentina on number 93). On the other side, on the Index of competiveness of the World Economic Forum 2006-2007 Uruguay is on the place number 73, Chile on number 27, Mexico on number 58, Colombia on number 65, Brasil on number 66 and Argentina on number 69.

Acording to Forbes magazine Uruguay is the third country on Latin America on hospitality. If we evaluate other aspects its even better, it has very little restrictions to the foreign investor.

URUGUAY –MERCOSUR

Uruguay is member of the MERCOSUR, the Mercosur is a giving capability to combine resources to balance the activities of other global economic powers, especially the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the European Union. The bloc comprises a population of more than 263 million people, and the combined Gross Domestic Product of the full-member nations is in excess of US$2.78 trillion a year (Purchasing power parity, PPP) according to International Monetary Fund (IMF) numbers, making Mercosur the fifth largest economy in the World.

Government sistem in Uruguay has a mixed democracy, in wich the governement is the main representation, but they mantain certain direct forms froms from part of the people (referendums). Since march 1, 2005 the president of Uruguay is Tabar� Vazquez. A recently ranking published by The Economist, Uruguay is the only country �full democtratic� of South America and its located on the best 28 countries in the world.

Uruguay profile

Uruguay. official full name in Spanish: República Oriental del Uruguay. Is a country located in the southeastern part of South America. It is home to 3.46 million people, of whom 1.7 million live in the capital Montevideo and its metropolitan area.

It is bordered by Brazil to the north, by Argentina across the bank of both the Uruguay River to the west and the estuary of Río de la Plata to the southwest, and the South Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. Its surface is 176.215 km² being by its territorial extension the second smallest country in South America, larger only than Suriname and the French overseas department of French Guiana.
